Seven Hills · Tuesday & Friday
No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu
Same art, no jacket. Without a gi to grip, the game gets faster and leans harder on wrestling, body control and leg entanglements. Free for members at INRG myBJJ Seven Hills.
Who it's for
The Tuesday 6:30 pm session is listed as all ages, so it's an accessible entry point. That said, most people find the gi classes at Carlingford an easier place to begin — the grips give you something specific to hold while you learn where your body should be.
If you have a wrestling, judo or sambo background, no-gi will feel most familiar first. Toshi cross-trains in Sambo, and it shows in how the grips, body locks and leg entries are taught here.
What a class looks like
Warm-up, technique, drilling, then rounds. The pace is higher than a gi class because there's less friction — expect to sweat more and to slip out of positions you thought you had locked.
What to wear
- A rash guard or a fitted t-shirt. Loose singlets get in the way.
- Shorts with no pockets, zips or toggles. A safety rule, not a style rule — pockets catch fingers and toes.
- Spats or leggings underneath if you prefer, and many people do.
- Drink bottle, towel, thongs for off the mat.
