Parent association

myBJJ Team

The team we belong to, founded and led by Professor Mario Sergio Yokoyama, a fifth-degree black belt. Every belt awarded at Carlingford is a myBJJ Team belt, issued within that lineage — which is what makes it recognised at academies well beyond Sydney.

Shared facility

King Tiger Taekwondo

We share the Carlingford facility at 372 Pennant Hills Road with King Tiger Taekwondo. Different art, same mats, same building — so if you're after striking, or you have one child who wants to grapple and one who wants to kick, both are available at the same address.

Practically, it also means the venue is set up properly for martial arts: matted floor, change facilities and a viewing area for parents.

Governing body

IBJJF

The International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation is the sport's largest governing body. It sets the rule set most competitions are scored under, defines the belt and age divisions, and runs the biggest events on the calendar.

You only need an IBJJF membership if you enter their events. If you're curious about how scoring works, their rule book is the primary source — and it's free to read.

Competition circuit

AJP Tour

The Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro tour runs a global circuit with regular Australian stops, in gi and no-gi. Its ranking system and its slightly different rule set make it a good complement to IBJJF events.

External links open in a new tab. We don't control what's on these sites, and listing them isn't an endorsement of everything they publish. Membership, entry fees and rules are set by those organisations, not by us.
