1. Who you are training with
myBJJ Miyazawa is the trading name of Toshihide Miyazawa, a sole trader, ABN 63 877 542 564, of 372 Pennant Hills Road, Carlingford NSW 2118. These terms apply to everyone who trains here.
2. Membership and what it includes
One membership covers everything the academy runs. At Carlingford that is the All Levels gi class on Monday and Thursday, 7:00–8:30 pm. It also covers free training at INRG myBJJ, Unit 19, 36 Abbott Road, Seven Hills — no-gi, gi and open mat on Tuesday and Friday from 6:30 pm. There is no second fee for the second venue.
Membership includes grading and belt progression. It does not include your own gi, a rash guard, a mouthguard, competition entry fees or federation memberships.
Children aged 5 to 15 train in the same All Levels class as adults, paired by size and experience. There is no separate kids-only session.
3. Your first class is free
The first class costs nothing and commits you to nothing. Wear a t-shirt and shorts; tell us your age, height and weight beforehand and a loan gi will be ready. Nobody is asked to sign a membership on the night.
4. Fees and payment
Fees are discussed in person rather than published, and are agreed with you before you join. Payment is by bank transfer or cash at the academy. We do not take card payments and we do not hold any card details.
A discount applies where more than one member of a family joins. Ask Toshi and he will sort it out.
5. No lock-in contract
There is no lock-in contract and no minimum term. You are not signing up for a fixed period, and there is no exit fee.
6. Stopping or pausing
To stop, tell Toshi. There is no notice period, no form to complete and no cancellation process to follow. You simply stop being billed from the next period.
If you are injured or travelling and want to pause rather than stop, tell Toshi. It is a small academy and these things are handled case by case.
7. Price changes
If fees change, you will be told directly and in advance, before the new amount applies to you. A change never applies retrospectively.
8. Conduct on the mat
Training here depends on a few things being taken seriously:
- Follow the instructor's directions, including when to stop.
- Tap early, and release immediately when your partner taps.
- Look after your training partners. Nobody uses a beginner to feel good about themselves.
- Nails short, clean gi every session, no jewellery, no shoes on the mat.
- Stay home with any cut, rash or skin infection until it is covered or cleared.
We may ask someone to leave, or end their membership, if they train dangerously or make the room unsafe or unwelcoming for others.
9. Risk and injury
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a contact sport with an inherent risk of injury. Everyone signs a waiver and health declaration before their first class — see the waiver, which forms part of these terms.
The academy does not currently hold public liability insurance. You should consider your own private health cover, ambulance cover and any personal accident insurance before you train.
10. Photography and video
We photograph and film classes from time to time for the website and social media. Tell us if you would rather not appear and we will keep you out of shot. Anyone under 18 is published only with a parent or guardian's permission. We will remove any image on request.
11. Visitors and drop-ins
Visitors from other academies are welcome. Message us first so we know to expect you, and bring proof of your current rank if you have it. A waiver is signed before training, the same as for members. Ask about the drop-in fee when you message.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of New South Wales, Australia.
13. Changes to these terms
If these terms change we will update this page and change the date below, and tell members directly where a change affects them.
